The song Yo quería, performed by Mexican singer-songwriter Cristian Castro, was released as the second single from his seventh studio album, Azul, in 2001. This track, which falls between pop and rock ballads, reached the top positions on major charts such as Billboard Hot Latin Tracks and Billboard Latin Pop Airplay. The song's production was handled by Kike Santander, who had previously collaborated with Castro on earlier works. The original composition is by Alejandro Montalbán and Eduardo Reyes.
The music video for Yo quería, directed by Pedro Torres, was filmed in the spring of 2001 in South Beach, Florida. This audiovisual material, which premiered on the program Primer Impacto and later on MTV, featured the participation of two models and friends of the artist. The video was later included in the compilation Nunca Voy a Olvidarte... Los Éxitos en DVD. The album Azul, from which this single is taken, was released by BMG U.S. Latin in June 2001 and received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album in 2002.
