The story behind
The first time Maria Bethânia presented herself to the public was in 1964, in a concert called *Opinião* that took place in Rio de Janeiro. The following year, in 1965, her single *Carcará* catapulted her to fame throughout Brazil. Her debut album, bearing her own name, Maria Bethânia, was originally released in LP format in June 1965. Later, in 1971, it was reissued in stereo, and in 1996, a remastered CD version became available. The song *X do Problema* has a duration of 2 minutes and 23 seconds.
Maria Bethânia was born as Maria Bethânia Vianna Telles Velloso in Santo Amaro, Bahia, in 1946. She comes from a family with a strong musical tradition; she is the sister of fellow singer-songwriters Caetano Veloso and Mabel Velloso, and the aunt of singers Belô Velloso and Jota Velloso. Throughout her career, she has released 50 studio albums.
