The story behind
Winds Of Change, according to DoReSol
The song Winds Of Change is one of those brief pieces that seem to contain more than its duration suggests. At just two minutes and fifteen seconds, the track is built on a rhythm that doesn’t aim to drag on, but rather unfolds with the precision of someone who knows that less can be more. There are no unnecessary adornments: the sound focuses on the voice of Vance Joy and an accompaniment that, though simple, manages to convey that sense of change the title promises. It’s as if the song had been carved so that every note and every pause resonates with the same intensity, without waste.
Recorded under the production of Ryan Hadlock, Winds Of Change is part of the album Dream Your Life Away, released in September 2014 in Australia and New Zealand through Liberation Music. For the American audience, it arrived five days later via Atlantic Records, while the rest of the world discovered it through Warner Music. The album didn’t take long to stand out: it reached the top spot on the Australian Albums Chart and, by January 2018, had already surpassed two million copies sold worldwide. The Deluxe edition of the album, released in September 2015, added two new tracks and five live performances, but Winds Of Change remained one of those moments that, even in an album full of hits, manages to stick in the memory.
