The story behind

Why Go, with its 3:39 runtime, is one of the tracks included in *Ten*, the debut album by Pearl Jam. This record, released on August 27, 1991, by Epic Records, has a particularity in its creation: many of its songs emerged from instrumental improvisation sessions or even from previous ideas by Mother Love Bone, the former band of Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard. On these foundations, Eddie Vedder composed the melodies and lyrics that gave them their final shape. Thus, Why Go embodies that creative process where the instrumentation laid the groundwork for Vedder's distinctive voice. Furthermore, the sound of *Ten* is characterized by a strong influence of classic rock, differentiating itself from other proposals of the era.

The history of Pearl Jam begins in Seattle, United States, in 1990. After Mother Love Bone disbanded, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard began working with guitarist Mike McCready. Together they recorded a five-song instrumental demo, with Matt Cameron on drums. These recordings reached Dave Krusen and Eddie Vedder, who were invited to audition in Seattle, thus forming the band's original lineup. Later, in 1998, Matt Cameron, also a member of Soundgarden, joined as drummer. From its beginnings, Pearl Jam showed a particular stance towards the music industry, rejecting common practices such as the production of promotional videos and even boycotting Ticketmaster. This way of operating marked their trajectory since the release of *Ten*, their album that brought them to a wide audience.
