The story behind
Want More, according to DoReSol
Bob Marley and The Wailers left a deep mark on reggae with recordings that, more than songs, feel like live sessions where rhythm and energy are felt in every instrument. "Want More" is a clear example: it lasts 4 minutes and 15 seconds, but in that time there is no room to breathe. The bass of Aston "Family Man" Barrett and the drums of Carlton Barrett weave a foundation that asks for no permission, while the guitars of Junior Marvin and Al Anderson intertwine with keyboards that jump between melodies and chords. It is not just a song that sounds good: it is a reminder that reggae does not need filler to be powerful.
The mix was credited to Aston "Family Man" Barrett and Chris Blackwell, but behind the controls were engineers like Sylvan Morris, Jack Nuber, Alex Sadkin, and Errol Thompson, who captured that raw sound that defines the band. Although Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer were no longer in the original lineup of The Wailers, the Barrett brothers and the rest of the band kept alive the essence Marley had built years earlier. When "Want More" plays, you are not listening to a polished studio product: you are hearing the result of musicians who played as if time did not exist.
