Before achieving international fame, Céline Dion was already a prominent figure in the Francophone world. Her manager, and later husband, René Angélil, bet heavily on her talent, even mortgaging his home to finance her first album. In 1990, she released *Unison*, her first English-language production, which marked a milestone by establishing her as a promising pop artist in North America and other English-speaking territories. Throughout the 1980s, she signed with CBS Records in Canada in 1986. It was in the 1990s, with Angélil at the helm and under the Epic Records label, that she achieved worldwide popularity with a series of albums in English and French, consolidating herself as one of the most successful pop singers. In 1999, at the peak of her career, she decided to take a break to start a family and accompany her husband during his cancer treatment. She returned to the pop music scene two years later, signing a contract for a series of concerts.
