The story behind
Vivo Per Lei, according to DoReSol
The piece Vivo per lei, with its duration of 4 minutes and 26 seconds, stems from a key moment in the career of Andrea Bocelli. Although it is primarily known for its inclusion in the compilation album Romanza, released internationally in 1997, this collection marked a turning point for the Italian tenor. Romanza was not just a compilation of his previous works, but became his most commercially successful release, reaching the top positions on charts in Europe and Latin America. With sales exceeding 20 million copies, it solidified itself as a milestone, being the best-selling Italian-language album and one of the most widely circulated non-English language albums worldwide.
This album, Romanza, gathered material from two of his earlier pop music productions: Il mare calmo della sera from 1994 and Bocelli from 1995. The release in the United States and Canada was particularly boosted, featuring both the album and Bocelli intensively. The tenor, born in 1958, who lost his sight at the age of twelve following an accident, has built a remarkable career since his victory in the "Newcomers" section of the Sanremo Music Festival in 1994. He has recorded thirteen solo studio albums, spanning from pop to classical music, as well as greatest hits and opera albums. His work has brought classical repertoire to international charts, selling over 75 million records globally. The production of Vivo per lei involved Joe Amoruso and Mauro Malavasi as arrangers, while the mixing was handled by Mauro Malavasi and Ignazio Orlando. The overall production was overseen by Stefano Grillini, Mauro Malavasi, and Michele Torpedine.
