The story behind

Con Te Partirò, according to DoReSol

The song Con te partirò, which means "Time to Say Goodbye", is a piece that originated from the collaboration between Francesco Sartori for the music and Lucio Quarantotto for the lyrics. It was first performed by Andrea Bocelli at the Sanremo Festival in 1995, and that same year it was included in his album Bocelli. The recording of this piece featured the involvement of Joe Amoruso and Mauro Malavasi in the arrangements, while the mixing was handled by Mauro Malavasi and Ignazio Orlando. The overall production was supervised by Stefano Grillini, Mauro Malavasi and Michele Torpedine.

The impact of Con te partirò was significant from its release. In 1995, it was released as a single alongside Vivere and quickly climbed the charts. In France, it became one of the best-selling singles of all time, and in Belgium it broke historical sales records. A later version, which combined Italian with English and was titled Time to Say Goodbye, recorded with soprano Sarah Brightman, achieved even greater success. This new interpretation topped the charts across Europe, including Germany, where it became the best-selling single in its history. Only this version has sold over 12 million copies worldwide. Additionally, there is a fully Spanish version, titled Por ti volaré. These various interpretations have cemented Con te partirò as the signature song of Andrea Bocelli.

The album Romanza, released internationally in 1997, although a compilation, is considered the work that propelled Andrea Bocelli’s career. This album, which gathers tracks from his earlier works Il mare calmo della sera (1994) and Bocelli (1995), became his biggest commercial success. It reached the top positions on charts throughout Europe and Latin America, selling over 20 million copies. This makes it the best-selling Italian-language album and one of the most successful non-English-language albums of all time, as well as one of the best-selling albums worldwide. For its release in the United States and Canada, both the album and Bocelli received strong promotion. Andrea Bocelli, born in 1958, is an Italian tenor known for his ability to blend pop with classical music. After losing his sight at the age of twelve, he has gone on to sell over 75 million records, establishing himself as one of the most successful solo artists in the history of classical music.
