The story behind
The story behind A Dress and a Love is as captivating as the melody itself. It is said that Fito Páez composed this piece in a moment of deep inspiration, sitting in front of a piano. The lyrics seem to be born from admiration for a female figure who bursts into his life, a muse who presents herself with an intriguing duality, as if she were an angel or a precious jewel. The images she evokes, of her greeting among the crowd, or even smoking in Madrid, suggest a luminous presence that illuminates everything around her, from the day to the path of whoever contemplates her. It is the portrait of an unexpected encounter, just when the search for companionship was not a priority, and the muse already possessed "a dress and a love".
This song, released on the 1992 album Love After Love, was dedicated to actress Cecilia Roth. The encounter between Fito Páez and Cecilia Roth took place in 1991, in Punta del Este, Uruguay, during a party. At that time, Cecilia, who resided in Spain, had returned to Argentina to recover from hepatitis. Fito, younger, was already recognized as a promise of Argentine rock. It was at that party that he approached her. Shortly after, both went through sentimental breakups, and it was in that context of wounded hearts that their paths joined more deeply. Fito recounted that the song emerged while he was in Cecilia's apartment, in front of his brother's piano, creating the piece that would later become a highlight of his career. The duration of this recording is 3:19, and it featured the participation of Geoff Foster, Carlos Narea, and Fito Páez himself in the mix.
