The story behind
When you dive into Tú, mi delirio, you'll find a surprise: there's no voice. What there is, however, is a piano that takes center stage, performed by Nat King Cole himself. This instrumental piece, included in the 1958 album Cole Español, is a testament to his skill as a pianist, beyond his renowned facet as a singer. The entire album was conceived for the Latin market, with arrangements by Nelson Riddle, and Tú, mi delirio adds to that atmosphere, albeit in a particular way, without the vocal melody that characterizes the other songs on the album.
Cole Español was the first in a series of three thematic albums in Spanish that Nat King Cole recorded. It was followed by A Mis Amigos in 1959 and More Cole Español in 1962. The orchestral music for this project was recorded in Havana, Cuba, while Cole's vocals were added in June in Los Angeles, California. However, for Tú, mi delirio, the process was different: Cole recorded the piano over the existing music, instead of adding his voice. This album, which was also reissued under the titles Español y More, Vol. 1, reached number 12 on the Billboard album chart and was inducted into the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007. The duration of this piece is 2 minutes and 36 seconds.
