The story behind
Trópico de Cáncer, according to DoReSol
The song Trópico de Cáncer by Café Tacvba, with its duration of 4 minutes and 39 seconds, emerges from a moment of deep sonic exploration. For the album Re, released in 1994, the band immersed themselves in a studio in Cuernavaca, Morelos, alongside Gustavo Santaolalla, seeking to expand their musical palette. This work was fueled by a bold fusion, incorporating everything from regional Mexican rhythms like huapango and son jarocho, to influences from punk and grunge. In this context, vocalist Rubén Albarrán adopted the name "Cosme" for his credits on Re.
The recording process of Re not only involved experimentation with genres, but also collaboration with musicians such as Luis Conte and Alejandro Flores, who contributed additional textures to Café Tacvba's sound. The album, released by Warner Music Group, was conceived with the intention of going beyond the conventional, and Trópico de Cáncer is a reflection of that ambition, integrating diverse musical currents into a distinctive proposal.
