The story behind
The album Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt, released in 1995, marked a turning point for the band. It was the last work in which original keyboardist Eric Stefani participated, who left the group in 1994. The recording spanned a long period, from March 1993 to October 1995, and took place in eleven different studios located in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The album was produced by Matthew Wilder, with mixing contributions from David J. Holman and Paul Palmer.
From Tragic Kingdom, the band released seven singles between 1995 and 1998. One of them, Just a Girl, managed to appear on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Another standout track, Don't Speak, reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart and ranked among the top five on numerous international charts. The album was positively received by critics and became No Doubt's most commercially successful work, reaching the top spot on the charts. This record, with its sound that fused ska and rock influences, helped revive the ska genre in the nineties and achieved Diamond certification in the United States.
