The story behind

Through the Never, according to DoReSol

The seventh track on the album widely known as *The Black Album*, titled Through the Never, delves into the idea of a constant pursuit of knowledge, an inquiry that seems to have no end. The lyrics explore humanity's fascination with the unknown, posing questions about the existence of life beyond our planet and the speculations this generates. With a runtime of 4:04, this song was produced by James Hetfield, Bob Rock, and Lars Ulrich, and was released in 1991.

This track, which shares its name with a 2013 film, had a particular journey regarding its live performances. After its release, Through the Never was heard live in a limited capacity, mainly during the album's promotional tour. However, there were notable moments when it reappeared: in 2009, after a 16-year absence, it was played in Tampa Bay, Florida, and in June 2012, it was performed at the Rock am Ring festival in Germany. In 2021, the band The Hu put their own spin on the song, including it on the album The Metallica Blacklist.
