The story behind

The Earnest of Being George, according to DoReSol

When you dive into The Earnest of Being George, you encounter a piece that, although not a lead single, encapsulates much of what made the Bee Gees special at that stage. The song, with a duration of 2:46, is an example of how the Gibb brothers worked in the studio, with production shared between them and Robert Stigwood. It is a track included on the album Horizontal, released in early 1968, a work that already showed influences ranging from the Beatles to baroque pop.

This album, Horizontal, was the Bee Gees' fourth studio album and the second to have international distribution. It was originally released on Polydor in many countries, and on Atco only in the United States and Canada. From this work came singles that achieved great international impact such as Massachusetts and World. An interesting fact is that in February 2007, Reprise Records reissued Horizontal, including stereo and mono mixes, as well as unreleased material, tracks that had not been included on albums, and alternative takes. Before this album, around July 1967, the Gibb brothers also contributed their voices to the backing vocals on Johnny Young's version of Craise Finton Kirk Royal Academy of Arts. The Bee Gees, founded in 1958, were formed by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. Born on the Isle of Man and with their early years in Chorlton, Manchester, they moved to Australia in the late 50s, where they began their musical career. After their first success in Australia with Spicks and Specks, they returned to the United Kingdom in January 1967, where Robert Stigwood began to promote their global projection.
