The story behind

The song The Climb, with its duration of 6:38, is a piece that stands out within the discography of No Doubt. It was recorded between March 1993 and October 1995 in eleven different studios in the Los Angeles area. The production work fell to Matthew Wilder, while the mixing was handled by David J. Holman and Paul Palmer. This song is part of Tragic Kingdom, the band's third studio album, released on October 10, 1995, by Trauma Records and Interscope Records. This album marked the departure of Eric Stefani, the original keyboardist, who left the band in 1994.

Tragic Kingdom became the most commercially successful album for No Doubt. Between 1995 and 1998, the album generated seven singles, including Just a Girl, which appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, and Don't Speak. The latter track achieved a milestone by topping the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay and reaching the top five on numerous international charts, remaining at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for 16 weeks. The band, formed in 1986 in Anaheim, California, evolved from its ska roots towards a sound closer to soft rock, with influences from Jamaican reggae. While their debut album did not have the expected impact, Tragic Kingdom was fundamental to their worldwide recognition and contributed to the resurgence of ska in the nineties, earning a Diamond certification in the United States. Subsequently, No Doubt released Return of Saturn, which had lesser commercial success, and in 2001, Rock Steady, from which hits like Hey Baby and Underneath It All emerged, earning them two Grammy Awards. In 2003, the band released The Singles 1992-2003, and shortly after, Gwen Stefani began her solo career, with collaborations that included her bandmate Tony Kanal, while Tom Dumont dedicated himself to his side project, Invincible Overlord.
