The story behind
te quiero, according to DoReSol
The first time Te quiero played on the radio, nobody paid much attention. It was 1983, and Hombres G had recorded it as part of a demo, without imagining it would become one of those songs people whistle years later without realizing. The trick lies in that chorus that sticks from the first beat: a direct phrase, without frills, that sounds like a spontaneous confession. There are no fillers or forced twists; just a melody that repeats with the same naturalness as saying "good morning".
The album where it first appeared, La cagaste... Burt Lancaster, was released in 1986, but the song had already been circulating for some time. Initially, the band had included it in an earlier single with little impact, until the public rediscovered it. When it reached number one on Los 40 Principales in October of that year, nobody doubted there was something special about that "te quiero" that needed no explanation. Later, other artists gave it their own twist: in 2017, Sonía Diaz took it to mariachi style, and in 2019, Volován adapted it to their pop style. But the original remains untouched, as if time had not passed.
