The story behind

The first time Oasis released Supersonic as a single, in April 1994, it was a key moment. The song was recorded in a single day, on December 19, 1993, at Pink Museum Studio in Liverpool. It was a very quick process: Noel Gallagher recounted that he wrote the music and lyrics in just half an hour while the other band members were eating. The production was handled by the band itself along with Mark Coyle, who was their live sound engineer. This direct way of working, almost like a demo, ended up being the final version we hear. The sound has clear influences from The Beatles, especially in the backing vocals contributed by Tony Griffiths from the band The Real People.

Supersonic became Oasis's first single to chart in the United States and reached number 31 in the UK. Despite being recorded so hastily, it was included on their debut studio album, Definitely Maybe, released in 1994. The album itself had an interesting recording journey; the initial sessions at Monnow Valley Studio did not yield the expected results, which led to a change of studio and producer. Finally, the recordings were completed at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall, with Noel Gallagher and Mark Coyle overseeing the sessions.
