The story behind
Straight for the Heart, according to DoReSol
Recorded in five different studios across Vancouver, Nassau and Los Angeles, Straight for the Heart sounds like a racing heartbeat that never stops. It's not just the rhythm that makes it stick: that initial hook, that air between urgency and sensuality, is pure Whitesnake. The song doesn't waste time on detours: it goes straight to the point, with an energy that reminds us why this band inspired a generation of musicians who wanted rock with grit but without losing the groove.
The album that contains it, Whitesnake, was released in April 1987 under Geffen Records in the United States and EMI worldwide. The recording sessions left more than just an album: they left tensions. As soon as they finished, David Coverdale made a decision that would change the band's history: he removed John Sykes from the lineup. But while the studio atmosphere wasn't the best, the result certainly was: Straight for the Heart lasts 3:39 and sounds as if every note had been crafted to sound live, without retouches. The mix, handled by Keith Olsen, and the production shared with Mike Stone, give it that shine that makes the track stand out even among the album's hits.
