The story behind
Stan, according to DoReSol
Eminem wrote Stan in 2000, as part of the album The Marshall Mathers LP. The song uses the voice of Thank You by Dido at the beginning. In the music, he talks about a fan who becomes obsessed with the artist, writes letters and ends in a tragic ending. In the final part, Eminem realizes that the guy committed suicide, and in the process, tried to kill his pregnant girlfriend. The video, made in California, shows Devon Sawa as the fan, and Dido as his partner. The brother of Eminem, Nathan Mathers, also appears as Stan's brother. The video received good reviews for showing a story without Eminem playing the main role. The word 'Stan' entered the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017, as a term for an obsessive fan.
