The story behind
The song Soy un hippie, with its duration of 4 minutes and 26 seconds, immerses us in a sound that, while part of Fito Páez's work, is distinguished by its own imprint. The album containing it, Circo Beat, released in 1994, marked the eighth studio work by the Argentine musician. This record, produced by Phil Manzanera —known for his time in bands like Roxy Music and his collaboration with Pink Floyd after Roger Waters' departure—, sought a particular path within Páez's discography. Although it did not reach the stratospheric figures of its predecessor, El amor después del amor, Circo Beat consolidated itself as the second best-selling album in the rosarian artist's career. Its impact was such that, in 1995, it was positioned as the third most commercialized album in Argentina, selling over 350,000 units.
Rodolfo Fito Páez's career, born in Rosario in 1963, is extensive and multifaceted. A member of the Trova rosarina, his solo career spans over 30 years and about twenty studio albums, in addition to live works and compilations. After an initial underground stage, his international projection was consolidated in the early nineties with releases such as El amor después del amor (1992) and the aforementioned Circo Beat (1994), both with notable commercial success. Throughout his career, he has been recognized with multiple awards, including five Latin Grammy Awards. These recognitions cover various categories, such as best male rock singer, best rock song, best rock vocal album, best singer-songwriter album, and best male pop vocal album. The Konex Foundation also distinguished him in 1995 with the Konex Platinum Award as the best rock composer of the decade in Argentina.
