The story behind
Sombra de ti, according to DoReSol
When one immerses oneself in Shakira's music, it's easy to get carried away by her most well-known rhythms. But there are songs that, although perhaps not heard as much on the radio, hold a very particular story and emotion. *Sombra de ti*, with its 3:36 duration, is one of those pieces. The lyrics speak of that emptiness and pain that remain after the end of a relationship, as if a persistent shadow were haunting us. Shakira herself recounted that this song was born in a recording studio, with the lights off and a broken heart, in the middle of the night. It's a display of that vulnerability that is sometimes hidden behind big productions.
This piece is part of ¿Dónde están los ladrones?, the Colombian artist's fourth studio album, released in 1998. For this work, Shakira collaborated again with Luis Fernando Ochoa, who had already been by her side on her debut album, Pies Descalzos (1995). The production of ¿Dónde están los ladrones? involved a team that included Emilio Estefan, Pablo Flores, Javier Garza, and Lester Méndez, among others. The album's sound aimed to fuse Latin pop with touches of Spanish rock and even Middle Eastern influences, creating a rich and diverse sonic palette. The recording involved engineers such as Marcelo Acevedo, Felipe Alvarez, Marcelo Añez, Eric Shilling, Paul Hoyle, Joel Numa, and Ron Taylor, while the mixing was handled by Sebastián Krys.
