The story behind

Moscas en la casa, according to DoReSol

In *Moscas en la casa* (Flies in the House), Shakira explores the deep melancholy that follows a breakup, a feeling of abandonment where one lets go while waiting for a return that may never come. The song, a Latin pop ballad with touches of Spanish rock and Middle Eastern music resonances, was released as a radio single, without an accompanying music video. Some suggest a darker interpretation, viewing the lyrics as the pain of losing a missing child, a void that leaves a perpetual search in the faces of others, longing to find fragments of that being who one day vanished.

This track is part of *¿Dónde están los ladrones?* (Where Are the Thieves?), the Colombian artist's fourth studio album, released on September 29, 1998. Following the success in Latin America with her previous work, *Pies descalzos* (Barefoot) (1995), Shakira connected with producer Emilio Estefan, who saw her potential for the US market. For this album, Shakira collaborated again with Luis Fernando Ochoa, in addition to having production from Pablo Flores, Javier Garza, Lester Méndez, and Estefan himself as executive producer. The recording involved several engineers, including Marcelo Acevedo, Felipe Alvarez, Marcelo Añez, Eric Shilling, Paul Hoyle, Joel Numa, and Ron Taylor, with mixing handled by Sebastián Krys. The duration of *Moscas en la casa* is 3 minutes and 32 seconds.
