The story behind

Solo, according to DoReSol

When Rubén Blades embarked on his first studio album, titled De Panamá a New York, the musical landscape was already in motion. This work, released in 1970 under the Alegre Records label, became the starting point for a discography that would make history. Although songs like Descarga Caliente, El Bravo, and Juan Gonzáles did not achieve the expected resonance at the time, they laid the creative foundations for later pieces that would indeed become fundamental, such as Pedro Navaja, Plástico, and Siembra. The recording of this album coincided with a family trip by Blades to New York, a context that, moreover, would inspire the composition of El Cazanguero, a track that would find its place in another project. The duration of Solo, one of the album's tracks, is 2 minutes and 42 seconds.

Blades' arrival in New York for the second time captured the interest of Pancho Cristal, producer for Alegre Records, who already had a history of success. This meeting was key to the materialization of De Panamá a New York, an album that, while not an immediate hit, demonstrated the potential of an artist who was about to redefine music.
