The story behind
Hey Man, according to DoReSol
Recorded in 1970, the album De Panamá a New York marked the beginning of Rubén Blades' recording career. This work, also considered the eleventh for Pete Rodríguez and His Orchestra, was released under the Alegre Records label. Although songs like Descarga Caliente, El Bravo, and Juan Gonzáles did not achieve the expected impact at the time, they laid the groundwork for future compositions by Blades, including such recognized pieces as Pedro Navaja, Plástico, and Siembra. The recording of this album coincided with a family trip by Blades to New York, and it was precisely in this city, after his second arrival, that producer Pancho Cristal, already known for his successes, focused his attention on the singer's talent.
The experience in New York also inspired Blades for the creation of El Cazanguero, which he would later include on the album The Good, the Bad, the Ugly. The track Hey Man, with a duration of 3 minutes and 41 seconds, is part of this important initial record.
