The story behind
Snap Out Of It, according to DoReSol
The first time you hear Snap Out Of It, you're met with a rhythm that immediately grabs you. It's one of those songs that invites you to move, with an energy that's felt from the very first beat. What's interesting is how Alex Turner, who wrote the lyrics, seems to be addressing someone, suggesting they let go of a situation or a person. The music accompanies that feeling, creating an atmosphere that, at times, could fit into a The Last Shadow Puppets work, given its almost orchestral intensity. But it also has that catchy touch, with "clicks, claps" and melodic hooks that make you think of melodies that could work in other musical contexts.
This piece was conceived between 2012 and 2013, forming part of the Arctic Monkeys' fifth studio album, titled AM, released in September 2013. The album's production was handled by James Ford, who also worked on this song, and featured co-production by Ross Orton in studios in Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, California. Snap Out Of It was released as the sixth single from the album on June 9, 2014, reaching contemporary hit radio in the UK. The music video, directed by Focus Creeps and released on June 17, 2014, features a woman who becomes obsessed with images of the band recording, eventually crying and dancing in front of the television, suggesting a past connection with one of the members.
