The story behind
Siglos de amor, according to DoReSol
Centuries of Love sounds like a sigh that lingers through time. The song doesn’t ask for permission to stay: it enters with a melody that seems to float above the rhythm, as if the bass and guitar wove a web where Marciano Cantero’s voice sways without haste but without pause. There’s something in its structure that sets it apart from what the band had been doing: it’s not just another ballad, but a track that breathes in a meter where the silences weigh as much as the notes. The keyboard of Eduardo Lalanne, newly arrived in the group, gives it an unexpected shine, as if the sound expanded without breaking the intimacy of the moment. The album Igual was born in 1992, after Cantero left his solo projects behind to return to the band with Staiti and Piccolo.
Andrés Calamaro, who had already worked with them on Había una vez..., polished the arrangements and even contributed backing vocals and keyboards, though the official credit only lists him as producer. The recording was quick, with equipment that wasn’t the usual, but that didn’t weaken the result. Siglos de amor lasts 4:42, enough time for the song to unfold without rushing, like a conversation that doesn’t want to end.
