This seventh studio album in the Mexican singer’s career was again produced by Kike Santander, who had previously collaborated with Castro on the 1999 album Mi Vida Sin Tu Amor. The album Azul received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2002 ceremony, and the title track Azul reached the top of the Latin charts.

Cristian Castro, whose full name is Cristian Sainz Valdés Castro, was born in Mexico City in 1974. He comes from a family with a strong artistic tradition: he is the son of actors Verónica Castro and Manuel "El Loco" Valdés. His family legacy includes figures such as his uncle, telenovela producer José Alberto "El Güero" Castro, and his great-uncles, comedian Germán Valdés, known as Tin Tán, and Ramón Valdés, remembered for his role as Don Ramón in El Chavo del Ocho. Although he initially explored acting, it was singing that became his true calling and launched him to international fame. Throughout his career, Castro has achieved notable successes, with 29 songs that have topped the Top Latin Songs chart, making him the third most prominent Spanish-speaking artist in Billboard history. He has sold nearly 12 million records worldwide and has been awarded over 65 gold records and 31 platinum records. The production of Azul featured collaborations with Danny Betancourt and José Antonio Molina, in addition to Kike Flavio Santander.
