The story behind
Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX, according to DoReSol
When you immerse yourself in parts VI to IX of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, you are exploring a segment that spans over twelve minutes. This monumental piece, which is part of the album Wish You Were Here, was recorded in 1975 at EMI Studios in London. The entire album was conceived from ideas the band had been developing during their performances in Europe. The production of these parts, like the rest of the record, was handled by Pink Floyd, with Peter James as the recording engineer.
The composition of Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd, who had left the band seven years earlier due to his mental health. Interestingly, Barrett visited the studio precisely during the recording sessions for this album. The lyrics of Wish You Were Here, in general, address themes such as longing, disconnection, and a biting critique of the music industry.
