The story behind
When Ricardo Montaner recorded Será with the London Metropolitan Orchestra, he not only revived one of his 80s hits but also gave it an unexpected twist: he transformed it into a symphonic piece where violins and winds engage in dialogue with his voice without losing its characteristic melodic air. The result is that blend of nostalgia and grandeur felt in the opening bars, where the orchestra doesn’t merely accompany but merges with the song, making its original version almost unrecognizable. What stands out isn’t just the change in arrangements but how Montaner adjusted some lyrics to fit this new format, as if the text had been born to resonate between strings and brass.
This work was part of Con la London Metropolitan Orchestra, an album released in August 1999 by WEA Latina that gathered the artist’s old hits reinterpreted with the orchestra. Será appears on that list with a duration of 3:49, but what surprises is how the song, composed decades earlier, found a second life in this recording. It wasn’t filler: the project aimed to explore the symphonic potential of songs that already had their audience, and in the case of Será, the experiment worked. The original, more acoustic version fades away when the orchestra’s bows take center stage, carrying the melody into a realm where the intimate and the epic collide without losing elegance.
