The story behind

Rock and Roll, according to DoReSol

When Led Zeppelin was in the midst of recording their fourth album, a moment of frustration arose while trying to shape the song _Four Sticks_. It was then, during a break at the Headley Grange mansion in Hampshire, England, that John Bonham began marking the opening rhythm of _Keep A-Knockin'_ by Little Richard. From there, Jimmy Page added a Chuck Berry-style guitar riff, and the rest of the band joined in spontaneously. What’s interesting is that, with the tapes rolling, the foundation of what would become _Rock and Roll_ was completed in just about fifteen minutes of improvisation.

This track, released in 1971 as part of their fourth studio album, stands out for its explosive energy. Jimmy Page’s main guitar riff, described as direct yet highly effective, leaves room for John Paul Jones’ bass and John Bonham’s powerful drumming to drive the song forward. The sound is enriched with layered guitars, including a central track with contrasting chords and another adding rock and roll "licks." Additionally, the participation of pianist Ian Stewart, co-founder of The Rolling Stones, contributes an extra texture with his piano parts. The song was recorded between January and February 1971 at the Rolling Stones Mobile and at Island, London, with production by Jimmy Page and engineering by Andy Johns.
