The story behind
Jimi Hendrix wrote "Red House" before forming his band, and recorded it in 1966 with The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It is a slow blues, with a twelve-bar structure, based on earlier songs in the genre. The song was released in May 1967 as part of the album *Are You Experienced* in the United Kingdom, and later in the United States in 1969. The lyrics follow a common theme in the blues: a man reflecting on his lost love. The introduction begins with a diminished seventh chord, typical of the blues, and then enters the drummer Mitch Mitchell. Hendrix plays solos on the guitar, and the song ends with a vocal section. Throughout his career, Hendrix played it in several concerts, and some official recordings were released after his death. ↓ Skip to chords
