The story behind

The song Re-Hash, with a duration of 3:40, explores the idea of presenting something again without significant changes, a theme that in this case focuses on a recurring money management situation, despite having been conceived as a one-off. The voice of Miho Hatori adds an additional layer to the composition, enriching its distinctive sound.

Re-Hash is part of Gorillaz's debut album, released by Parlophone on March 26, 2001 in the United Kingdom. This album reached third place on the British charts and sold around seven million copies globally, a success that led the band to be recognized in the Guinness Book as the most successful virtual band. The album is characterized by its experimentation with a wide range of musical genres, including trip hop, rap rock, art rock, hip hop, dub, reggae, Latin music, psychedelia, and punk rock. The band, a creation of Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett in 1998, presents itself through fictional characters such as Noodle, Murdoc Niccals, and Russel Hobbs, with Albarn being the only permanent musician in reality. Remi Kabaka Jr, who voiced Russel Hobbs for several years, began collaborating with the group in 2016 and was named an official member in 2019, a process documented in Gorillaz: Reject False Icons. The recording of Re-Hash featured Jason Cox and Tom Girling as engineers, while production was handled by Jason Cox, Dan the Automator, Tom Girling, and the band Gorillaz itself.
