The story behind

When you dive into Rainy Day, you encounter a piece that, with its 2 minutes and 55 seconds, encapsulates a fundamental part of America's sound. The song was recorded with the collaboration of Ken Scott as recording engineer, and the group itself, along with Jeff Dexter and Ian Samwell, handled the production. This work took place within the framework of the band's debut album, which saw the light of day originally in January 1972.

This initial album, titled America, had a particular history. At first, it did not include the track that would become their biggest hit, A Horse with No Name. That song was first released as a single in Europe in late 1971. However, when A Horse with No Name exploded as a global phenomenon in January 1972, the album was quickly reissued to include it. The result was a resounding success: the album climbed to the top of the Billboard album chart in the United States, remaining there for five weeks. In addition to the massive hit A Horse with No Name, which topped the singles chart for three weeks, the album also spawned I Need You, which reached ninth place on the Billboard charts. Other tracks like Sandman and Three Roses also received considerable airplay on FM radio at the time. The band, formed in 1970 in London by Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek, sons of American military personnel, drew inspiration from the Californian folk-rock of artists like The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash. They chose the name America as a nostalgic nod to their origins, despite playing in British pubs.
