The story behind

When you immerse yourself in the sound of Riverside, you encounter a piece that captures the essence of a particular moment for the band America. The recording of this song, along with the rest of the self-titled debut album, took place in 1971, before the band achieved massive fame. Trident and Morgan studios in London were the settings where this work was conceived, with Ian Samwell and Jeff Dexter producing, and Ken Scott as recording engineer. The album, originally released in January 1972, was presented as a folk rock and folk-pop record, with a total duration of 46:14.

What makes America's debut so interesting is how its release evolved. Initially, the album did not include the track that would become their biggest hit. "A Horse with No Name" first saw the light of day as a single in Europe in late 1971. However, when this song exploded and became a worldwide hit in early 1972, the album was quickly reissued that same month, adding the track that would catapult it to the top. The record not only reached the number one spot on the Billboard album chart in the United States, staying there for five weeks, but also generated two successful singles: "A Horse with No Name," which topped the Billboard singles chart for three weeks in 1972, and "I Need You," which reached ninth position. Additionally, other tracks like "Sandman" and "Three Roses" were frequently played on FM radio. The album cover features a curious image: members Dewey Bunnell, Gerry Beckley, and Dan Peek sitting in front of an 1887 photograph of prisoners captured by the U.S. Army in Montana.
