Fun facts

America released their first album in 1972, an album that was called America. At first, it did not include the song A Horse with No Name, which was released as a single in Europe a year earlier. When that song became a global hit in January 1972, the album was reissued with the track included.

The story behind

America released Sandman in 1972, as part of their first album America. The song appeared on an initial version of the album, but was later included in a reissue when the track A Horse with No Name became a global hit. Sandman was one of the songs that received radio play, along with Three Roses and I Need You.

The album was recorded in 1971 at Trident and Morgan studios in London, produced by Ian Samwell and Jeff Dexter. It was released by Warner Bros. and reached the top of the charts in the United States. The cover shows the band members seated in front of an old photograph of captured Native American prisoners by the U.S. army.
