The story behind
Push, according to DoReSol
The song Push, with a duration of 5:54, is a piece taken from the album Diamonds and Pearls, released on October 1, 1991. This record marked a milestone as it was the first on which Prince collaborated with his band, The New Power Generation. The album, released through Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records, spawned several singles that resonated with the public, such as Gett Off, Cream, Money Don't Matter 2 Night, Insatiable, and Diamonds and Pearls itself. On the album's iconic holographic cover, which was later reprinted without that effect, appeared dancers Lori Werner (known as Lori Elle) and Robia LaMorte, who embodied "Diamond" and "Pearl" respectively.
Both artists also appeared in the music videos for Cream, Strollin', Gett Off, and the title track, in addition to being part of the Diamonds and Pearls Tour. Prince Rogers Nelson, born in Minneapolis in 1958 and passed away in Chanhassen in 2016, was a multifaceted artist who explored genres such as rock, soul, funk, and new wave. Throughout his career, he performed under the name Prince, but also adopted an unpronounceable symbol between 1993 and 2000, a period that generated controversy and led to him being referred to as "The artist formerly known as Prince." During the 1980s, he established himself as a key and innovative figure, laying the groundwork for the so-called "Minneapolis sound." This sonic identity began to take shape from his third album, Dirty Mind, and was consolidated with Controversy in 1981, even influencing the debut album of The Time.
His recognition reached its peak with the album and film Purple Rain in 1984. In the United States, his album sales exceed 39.5 million, and worldwide they are around 100 million. The song Purple Rain earned him an Oscar for Best Original Song Score, and he also received a Grammy Award for the eponymous album, which included global hits like When Doves Cry and Let's Go Crazy. The production of Push featured the collaboration of The New Power Generation as arrangers and producers, alongside Prince, and the recording engineering was handled by Dave Friedlander, Steve Noonan, and Brian Poer.
