The story behind
Bo Diddley recorded "Pretty Thing" on July 14, 1955, the same day as "Bring It to Jerome". The song was released as a single in 1955, and was Diddley's third release on the Checker label. The recording took place at the Universal Recording Corp. studio in Chicago, with the Chess brothers and Diddley as producers. The band included Bo Diddley on guitar and vocals, Jerome Green on claves, Lester Davenport on harmonica, and Clifton James on drums. The song reached number 4 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1956, and was one of the two Diddley songs that appeared on the UK Singles Chart, along with "Hey Good Lookin'". It was also a hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number 34. The name Los Pretty Things comes from this song, and they performed it on their debut album in 1965. Other bands such as the Animals or Canned Heat also covered it in different versions. ↓ Skip to chordsIntro 1
