The story behind
Por toda a minha vida, according to DoReSol
The recording of Por toda a minha vida, alongside Antonio Carlos Jobim, became a gift for Elis Regina after a decade of work with Philips. This musical encounter, which took place between February 22 and March 9, 1974, at the MGM Studios in Los Angeles, California, brought together two leading figures of Brazil’s popular music. The arrangements, handled by César Camargo Mariano—who was Elis’s husband at the time—introduced a fresh perspective to bossa nova by incorporating electric instruments. On this album, Elis delivers restrained yet delicate performances of iconic tracks like Águas de Março, which became the album’s most popular song, and Corcovado. The duration of Por toda a minha vida is 2:04.
The production of this collaborative album was led by Aloysio de Oliveira, while recording engineering was carried out by Humberto Gatica. Elis Regina Carvalho Costa, known worldwide as Elis Regina, was born in Porto Alegre in 1945 and established herself as one of the most prominent voices in Brazilian popular music. Her career, cut short prematurely in 1982, left an indelible mark on the music scene.
