The story behind
Parásito, according to DoReSol
The song Parásito by Molotov, released in mid-1999, directly addresses the figure of the "parasite" or "freeloader" in Mexican culture with a touch of irreverence. It uses this colloquial term sarcastically and disparagingly, targeting politicians. The music video for this track adds an interesting visual layer, featuring actor Alfonso Zayas. The clip's narrative follows an elderly man who is removed from his home to participate in a robbery at a market, culminating in a limousine accident. Throughout the story, scenes of the band members performing vocal improvisations and beatboxing are interspersed.
This song was part of the album Apocalypshit, Molotov's second studio work, which was released to the market on September 14, 1999, under the label Universal Music Group. For the production of this record, the band collaborated with Mario Caldato Jr., who had previously worked with the Beastie Boys on their album Hello Nasty. The sound of Apocalypshit is characterized by its diversity, ranging from alternative metal to Spanish-language rock. After its release, the album reached position 32 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and also appeared on Spain's music charts. The music for Parásito was composed by Francisco "Paco" Ayala.
