The story behind

The song *Os anjos* by Cidade Negra, with its duration of 4 minutes and 2 seconds, emerges from a rich fusion of musical influences. The band, initially named Novo Tempo and later Lumiar, was formed with the simple goal of performing at a church festival. A shared passion for Jamaican rhythms, especially for Bob Marley, along with Brazilian music from artists like Tim Maia, and the funk and soul of the 1970s, laid the foundation for their distinctive sound. To this were added influences from classic rock, such as Led Zeppelin, creating a sonic amalgam that would define Cidade Negra.

The band's path began to take shape in 1983 with the addition of Bernardo. Their early performances included a concert in 1986 at the Arcadia Theater, in Baixada, as part of a series called "Terças Culturais". The name change to Cidade Negra was due to the existence of another group with the same name. Rehearsals were held at Da Gama's house, using borrowed equipment. A BBC London documentary about culture in Baixada, which focused on the band, acted as a boost. By 1990, the record label Sony Music, then CBS, decided to bet on them. The following year, in 1991, with Nelson Meirelles and Eduardo Egs producing, they released their first album, Lute Para Viver. This work was characterized by its politicized lyrics and reflections on life, and from it emerged the hit *Falar a Verdade*, which resonated strongly on Brazilian radio.
