The story behind
One Night Love Affair, according to DoReSol
The song One Night Love Affair by Bryan Adams has no official video, but it has been a radio staple for decades. The lyrics speak of a fleeting encounter between two people, where desire and complicity blend with the idea that the night won’t last forever. It’s one of those songs that, while not the most commercial on its album, has stuck in fans’ memories for its straightforward rhythm and that mix of melancholy and energy that makes it instantly recognizable.
It was recorded in April 1984 at Little Mountain Sound in Vancouver, as part of the same session batch that shaped the album Reckless. The track was released as a single in September 1985 in the United States and a month later, in February, in Canada. There, it reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and seventh on the rock chart, though in its home country it peaked within the top twenty without going further. The curious detail is that, as Jim Vallance recounted, guitarist Keith Scott laughed so hard when he heard the lyric change—from “it ain’t for keeps” to “it ain’t for Keith”—that Adams has sung it that way live ever since, looking straight at him. The song also appeared on the soundtrack of Real Genius, that 80s comedy where Val Kilmer and his college buddies throw a pool party.
