The story behind
When you immerse yourself in Odio el silencio by Bacilos, you encounter a piece that, with its 3 minutes and 44 seconds, invites you to explore particular sonic textures. The band, formed in Miami, Florida, was characterized by an acoustic approach that mixed Latin rhythms such as salsa, rumba, vallenato, trova, Cuban son, and samba, reaching as far as bossa nova. This fusion, added to the diversity of nationalities of its members —Jorge Villamizar from Colombia, André Lopes from Brazil, and José Javier Freire from Puerto Rico—, gave Bacilos a distinctive sound that resonated in America and Europe, especially in Spain.
The album to which Odio el silencio belongs, titled Caraluna, was released in 2002 and became a milestone for the group. This record work not only included hits like Mi primer millón and Caraluna, but also received important awards. At the 45th edition of the Grammy Awards, Caraluna won the award for Best Latin Pop Album, and at the 4th edition of the Latin Grammy Awards, it received the award for Best Pop Vocal Album Duo or Group. The music of Odio el silencio, composed by Jorge Villamizar, is inserted into this context of a project that sought an original musical expression and achieved a significant impact.
