Maria Bethânia, whose full name is Maria Bethânia Vianna Telles Velloso, was born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, Brazil. Her musical career began in 1964 with her participation in the Opinião concert in Rio de Janeiro. The following year, in 1965, she consolidated her national presence thanks to the success of her single Carcará. She comes from a family of musicians, being the sister of singer-songwriters Caetano Veloso and Mabel Velloso, and aunt of singers Belô Velloso and Jota Velloso. Throughout her career, she has released a considerable number of studio albums, positioning herself among the most prominent artists in Brazil.
