The story behind

When The Cranberries released No Need to Argue in October 1994, they departed from the softer sound of their debut album. The band, formed in Limerick in 1989, decided to explore a rougher and more powerful path on this second work. This is evident in how they turned up the volume and used more distortion on several songs, seeking a heavier sound. This, according to drummer Fergal Lawler, was a natural evolution after two years of touring, having become accustomed to hearing themselves loudly on stage. The album, with a total runtime of 6:54, became their best-selling work worldwide, surpassing 17 million copies by 2014.

The production of No Need to Argue was handled by Julie Gardner and Stephen Street, who worked with engineers Julie Gardner and Stephen Street to capture this new energy. This record is the one that contains Zombie, one of the band's most recognized tracks. Unlike their first album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, the general atmosphere of No Need to Argue is perceived as darker and rawer, reflecting a sonic maturity that led them to establish themselves as a significant act in the 90s rock scene.
