The story behind

The song *No Carnaval* has a duration of 2 minutes and 16 seconds, a detail that, although it may seem minor, contributes to the intensity with which it unfolds. It was originally released in June 1965, as part of the self-titled debut album by Maria Bethânia. This record, which marked the beginning of her career, had several editions: first in LP and mono format, then in 1971 it was reissued in stereo under the RCA Camden label, and finally in 1996 a remastered CD version by Sony BMG arrived. Maria Bethânia, born as Maria Bethânia Vianna Telles Velloso in Santo Amaro, Bahia, Brazil, comes from a family with a deep connection to music. She is the sister of singer-songwriters Caetano Veloso and Mabel Velloso. Her musical career took off in 1964 with her participation in the Opinião concert in Rio de Janeiro. The following year, in 1965, she achieved great popularity throughout the country thanks to her single *Carcará*.
