The story behind
There are songs that, without explicitly seeking it, end up defining a band's sound. Never Found the Time, with its 3 minutes and 50 seconds of duration, is one of those pieces that encapsulate the essence of America. It's not the one that plays most on the radio, but its structure and atmosphere are a reflection of what the band was exploring in its early days. The work of Ken Scott in recording engineering and the production shared between the band itself, Jeff Dexter, and Ian Samwell, lays the foundation for that characteristic sound they were seeking.
The story behind America's debut album, originally released in January 1972, is curious. At first, it did not include the track that would become their great hit, A Horse with No Name. This single had been released first in Europe in late 1971. However, when A Horse with No Name exploded as a global phenomenon in January 1972, the album was quickly reissued to include it, consolidating its presence in the market. The record reached the top of the Billboard charts in the United States, remaining there for five weeks. Two singles were released from it that reached prominent positions: in addition to A Horse with No Name, which led the Billboard singles chart for three weeks, I Need You positioned itself in ninth place. Other songs from the album, such as Sandman and Three Roses, also had good rotation on FM radio stations, showing the diversity of their proposal.
