The story behind

My Lover’s Prayer, according to DoReSol

In My Lover's Prayer, the Bee Gees explore a polished sound, with arrangements by Robbie Kondor and Russ Titelman. The recording featured engineers such as Richard Alderson and Steve Eigner, while the mixing was handled by Joe Lizzi and Dave O’Donnell, in addition to Russ Titelman himself, who also took on production. The song, with a duration of 4:02, is part of the album Still Waters, released in March 1997 in the United Kingdom through Polydor Records. This record was an ambitious project, working with several renowned producers like David Foster, Hugh Padgham, and Arif Mardin, seeking to consolidate the group's sound.

The context for the creation of Still Waters was marked by a change of plans. In 1994, a tour planned to promote the album Size Isn't Everything had to be postponed due to Barry Gibb's health issues, specifically arthritis in his back and right knee. Following the cancellation, the idea for a different project emerged: an album of acoustic covers of songs the Gibb brothers had written for other artists, which would eventually be known as Love Songs. Although My Lover's Prayer is not directly derived from that project, the atmosphere of creative reevaluation and the search for new musical directions undoubtedly influenced the recording environment of the album Still Waters. The Bee Gees, founded in 1958 by brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb, had gone through various stages of success, from their pop beginnings in the late sixties to their peak in the disco era of the late seventies, always characterized by their distinctive vocal harmonies.
