Maria Bethânia Vianna Telles Velloso, born in Santo Amaro, Bahia, in 1946, began her musical journey in 1964 with her participation in the Opinião concert in Rio de Janeiro. Her national recognition was consolidated in 1965, a key year for the release of her first album and for the success of her single Carcará. Coming from a family with a deep connection to art, she is the sister of fellow singer-songwriters Caetano Veloso and Mabel Velloso, and aunt to singers Belô Velloso and Jota Velloso, which underscores a family artistic legacy in the musical landscape of Brazil.
