The story behind
Money Don’t Matter 2 Night, according to DoReSol
When Prince released the album Diamonds and Pearls in 1991, he did so accompanied by his band, The New Power Generation. This work, released by Paisley Park Records and Warner Bros. Records, brought with it several songs that resonated with the public, including Money Don’t Matter 2 Night. The album's image was highlighted by its holographic cover, starring dancers Lori Werner and Robia LaMorte, who adopted the stage names "Diamond" and "Pearl" respectively. These artists were not only part of the iconic cover but also appeared in the music videos for songs like Cream and Strollin', and participated in the Diamonds and Pearls Tour.
The recording of Money Don’t Matter 2 Night featured the collaboration of The New Power Generation and Prince himself on the arrangements. Sound engineering was handled by Timothy Penn, while the mixing was done by Michael Koppelman. This track, with a duration of 4:47, adds to the list of productions by Prince, a multifaceted artist from Minneapolis, known for fusing rock, soul, funk, and new wave. Throughout his career, Prince Rogers Nelson, who also used an unpronounceable symbol as his stage name between 1993 and 2000, explored and defined the so-called "Minneapolis sound," an influence that became evident from albums like Dirty Mind and Controversy.
