The story behind

Me faltabas tú, according to DoReSol

I missed you doesn’t sound like the rest of La Dulzura. The album has that mix of reggae with touches of roots and stretched-out melodies, but this short song — under three minutes — stands out with a different urgency. The bass kicks in almost from the first second, drawing a line it doesn’t let go of until the end, while the drums hit a rhythm that isn’t the typical *one drop* of Cultura Profética but something more restless, as if the track needed to get somewhere fast. Rodríguez’s voice doesn’t sing; it almost whispers at first, and that’s the magic: the contrast between the intimate and the collective, as if the lyrics were a secret the listener discovers too late.

The album came out in 2010, but the ideas behind Me faltabas tú had been brewing for years. The band had been touring for ages, playing raw versions of these songs in makeshift venues, and the material took shape on the road. By the time they recorded La Dulzura, they’d already discarded what didn’t work and kept only the essential. The curious part is they released the album under their own label, La Mafafa, after several record labels offered terms they didn’t like. Rodríguez put it bluntly: “We didn’t find anything favorable.” So they borrowed equipment, recorded in three days, and the result was an album that, without intending to, ended up being one of their most listened to. Me faltabas tú, at just over two minutes, is proof that sometimes the smallest things are the ones that stick in the memory.
